NIHR Devices for Dignity and Kidney Research UK - Translational MedTech Grant
A joint competition between Devices for Dignity, NIHR HealthTech Research Centre for Long-Term Conditions (D4D) and Kidney Research UK.
The competition will fund innovative projects in the MedTech sector that focus on the rapid translation of scientific discoveries into clinical applications with a clear benefit for patients with renal disease.

Devices for Dignity (D4D) was established in 2008 through a Department of Health and Social Care pilot scheme to grow research and innovation in the medical technology development landscape. D4D’s goal is to act as a catalyst for new medical technologies to come to market or enter the care pathway for people with long-term conditions. They do this through collaboratively working with industry, academics, patients and the public. D4D have recently received £3m from the NIHR to become one of 14 nationwide HealthTech Research Centres, which will come into effect on 1 April 2024. With a focus on long-term neurological conditions, diabetes, renal disease, women’s health, mental health and rehabilitation, D4D have extensive expert networks and a nationwide remit.

Information about the translational research grant
The translational research grant aims to accelerate the development and availability of transformational technologies. It also aims to promote approaches to improve the prevention and treatment of kidney disease.
- We are seeking novel research that clearly outlines the positive impact on the lives of kidney patients, or how the project can support the prevention of kidney disease.
- Preference will be given to projects that have the potential for a commercial outcome.
- We welcome applications from researchers, clinical staff and SMEs.
- Grant available: four awards of £10,000 available.
- Funding period: 6-12 months.
