As part of a <a href=\"https:\/\/www.kidneyresearchuk.org\/research\/the-pkd-partnership\/\">partnership led by Kidney Research UK and the PKD Charity<\/a>, this funding call seeks to enable high-quality research that tackles the key challenges in PKD, accelerating meaningful progress for every person affected.<\/p>\n\t<h3>A new collaboration to change the future of PKD care<\/h3>\n\t<p><strong>We encourage applications from all researchers, including allied healthcare professionals, nurses, pharmacists and psychologists, committed to advancing our understanding, diagnosis and treatment of PKD through innovative, patient-led science, as part of the PKD Partnership.<\/strong> This can include established PKD researchers or researchers currently working in other disease areas who have a clear focus on the underlying disease processes or associated technologies (such as inflammation, healing, fibrosis, biomarkers, imaging). Early career applications are also welcomed.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Successful applications will align with one or more strategic themes <\/strong><\/p>\n<p>We are seeking research proposals that align with specific areas of strategic interest and overarching goal of advancing scientific understanding and developing innovative treatments for PKD through collaborative research, cutting-edge technology and patient engagement. Successful applicants will align their research endeavours with the relevant PKD Partnership theme-specific group.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Applications demonstrating a commitment to collaboration between centres is encouraged<\/strong>.<\/p>\n\t<h4><strong>Areas of strategic interest<\/strong><\/h4>\n<ul>\n<li><strong> Biomarker and molecular insight<\/strong><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>Identify and validate biomarkers to predict disease progression and treatment response.<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li><strong> Preclinical innovation<\/strong><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>Advance reliable experimental platforms to accelerate therapeutic discovery<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li><strong>Integrated data and translational tools<\/strong><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>Leverage large-scale data and computational methods for improved outcomes<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li><strong> Personalised and preventive care strategies<\/strong><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>Develop tailored treatments and early interventions<\/p>\n\t<h2>Types of grants available<\/h2>\n<p>We welcome applications for\u00a0the following grant types<\/p>\n\t<p><strong>Research driver grants: <\/strong>up to \u00a320K (1 year maximum)<\/p>\n<p>To investigate new or validate existing scientific insights in PKD, including early stage and pilot studies.<\/p>\n\t<p><strong>Research project grants: \u00a0<\/strong>up to \u00a3250k (3 years max)<\/p>\n<p>For\u00a0innovative, collaborative research projects that will advance our knowledge of PKD, refine current treatments or lead to new ones.<\/p>\n\t<p><strong>Intermediate non-clinical fellowships<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>To support post-doctoral scientists to apply their research and focus to expanding our knowledge and understanding of PKD<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li><strong>Funding period: <\/strong>3 years maximum<\/li>\n<li><strong>Items of expenditure: <\/strong>fellow&#8217;s salary and consumables<\/li>\n<li><strong>Annual consumables allowance: <\/strong>\u00a315,000 per annum<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\t<p><strong>Clinical training fellowships<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>To support\u00a0medical graduates to specialise in the renal field thereby expanding the levels of expertise in PKD and its treatment.<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li><strong>Funding period: <\/strong>3 years maximum<\/li>\n<li><strong>Items of expenditure: <\/strong>Fellow&#8217;s salary, higher degree fees and consumables<\/li>\n<li><strong>Annual consumables allowance:<\/strong> \u00a315,000 per annum<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>Maximum salary point will be ST5 doctor in training grade for the duration of the award.<\/p>\n\t<p><strong>PhD studentships<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>For research leading to a PhD, focusing on PKD.<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li><strong>Funding period: <\/strong>over 3.5-years maximum<\/li>\n<li><strong>Items of expenditure: <\/strong>student stipend, higher degree fees and consumables<\/li>\n<li><strong>Annual consumables allowance: <\/strong>\u00a35,000 annually, up to a maximum of \u00a315,000 for the whole 3.5-year PhD project<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\t<p><strong>Clinical PhD fellowship:<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>To support Allied Health Professionals, nurses, pharmacists and psychologists to undertake research expanding the levels of expertise in PKD and its treatment.<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li><strong>Funding period: <\/strong>maximum of three years (part time available)<\/li>\n<li><strong>Items of Expenditure: <\/strong>fellow&#8217;s salary (capped at Band 8a), higher degree fees<\/li>\n<li><strong>Annual consumables allowance: <\/strong>\u00a315,000 per annum<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\t<h2>Submitting an application<\/h2>\n<p>Information of eligibility, grant regulations and conditions, and opening and closing dates for submissions.<\/p>\n\t<h2><strong>Application information<\/strong><\/h2>\n<p>All submissions to this call will be subject to <a href=\"https:\/\/www.kidneyresearchuk.org\/research\/research-grants\/grant-application-process\/\">expert review<\/a> involving members of our research grants committee and lay advisory group and both scientific and lay external reviewers.<\/p>\n<p>All lead applicants must be resident in the United Kingdom and the research must be led from a UK establishment.\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>The application process is a single stage, full application submitted by the closing date.<\/p>\n\t\t\t<a href=\"https:\/\/kidneyresearchuk.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/03\/Regulations-and-Conditions-202204.pdf\" target=\"_self\">\n\t\t\t\t\t\t\tRegulations and conditions\n\t\t\t\t\t<\/a>\n\t<h2>Application key dates<\/h2>\n<p><strong>Opening date:<\/strong> 11 August 2025<\/p>\n<p><strong>Closing date:<\/strong> 22 October 2025<\/p>\n\t\t\t<a href=\"https:\/\/research.kidneyresearchuk.org\/login.aspx\" target=\"_self\">\n\t\t\t\t\t\t\tApply now\n\t\t\t<\/a>\n\t<h2>Got a question?
