\n\tOur hybrid grants programme is one of the many ways we fund and facilitate high quality research.\u00a0<\/p>\n\t\t\t\n\t\t\t\t\t\t\tRead our research strategy\n\t\t\t\t\t<\/a>\n\t Following the\u202ffindings from\u202four\u202freport into the\u202fhealth economics of kidney disease<\/a>\u202fthe need to support high-quality, innovative\u202fresearch\u202fin\u202fthis area\u202fhas never been clearer.\u202f\u00a0<\/p>\n We\u202fare looking for research\u202fproposals\u202faligned\u202fto our areas of interest that align with our overarching goals of prevent, protect and treat, and we intend to make at least one award in each area.\u202fWithin your application, we will ask how your proposal aligns with these.\u00a0<\/p>\n\t\t\t\t\tTransforming treatments<\/a>\n\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\tExpand<\/i><\/a>\n\t\t\t\t\t We will find ways to make kidney transplants last longer, dialysis more tolerable, reduce the burden of treatment and monitoring, and improve quality of life for people living with kidney disease. We will harness and develop technology to enable people to take control of their kidney health.\u00a0<\/p>\n We are particularly interested in receiving grant applications that address these themes:\u00a0<\/p>\n We will investigate how kidney disease is linked to other multiple long-term conditions such as diabetes, high blood pressure and heart disease, obesity and liver disease. Under the holistic area of cardiovascular, renal and metabolic conditions, we would welcome applications to better understand the interplay between these conditions. With a focus on cardiovascular disease and kidney disease to reveal the pathways linking these conditions, and improvements in prevention and earlier detection of kidney disease and subsequent management of multiple long-term conditions. \u00a0<\/p>\n We are keen receive applications for grants that address our recently published research recommendations in diabetic kidney disease which was created jointly with Diabetes UK and Breakthrough type 1 diabetes\u00a0with focuses on understanding causal mechanisms, improving prevention and diagnosis, addressing health inequalities, improving care and supporting self-management, for patients and their carers.\u00a0<\/p>\n\t\t\t\t\tHealth equalities<\/a>\n\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\tExpand<\/i><\/a>\n\t\t\t\t\t We will highlight the inequalities of kidney disease; we will investigate why some groups of people are more at risk of kidney disease, and progress to kidney failure much faster. We will press for greater diversity in kidney research, so that discoveries benefit everyone.<\/p>\n We are keen to receive proposals that address kidney health inequalities, particularly those research evidence gaps that have emerged from the Time to Act: A new review of kidney health inequalities<\/a> report launched in July 2024.<\/p>\n\t\t\t\t\tMental health<\/a>\n\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\tExpand<\/i><\/a>\n\t\t\t\t\t Mental health and wellbeing<\/a> cuts across all elements of living with kidney disease and all treatments including dialysis and transplantation. We will fund research which supports the development of services and interventions that promote a multi-disciplinary approach to mental health and wellbeing as an integral, whole-person approach to renal care.\u00a0<\/p>\n\t\t\t\t\tKidneys and cancer<\/a>\n\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\tExpand<\/i><\/a>\n\t\t\t\t\t We welcome grant applications addressing kidneys and cancer.\u00a0\u00a0<\/p>\n We are particularly interested in receiving applications that address the following overarching priorities:\u00a0\u00a0<\/p>\n We are interested in projects that will improve the earlier detection, diagnosis and treatment of kidney cancers, reduce nephrotoxicity caused by chemotherapy, and investigate cancers associated with immunotherapy and\u00a0post-transplant immunosuppression (such as skin cancer and lymphoma)\u00a0<\/p>\n\t We are open for all grant types, career development and research project and start-up submissions.<\/p>\n\t Senior non-clinical fellowships<\/strong> to support scientists who have conducted independent research in the renal field to build reputation in this field, deepening their knowledge and experience\u00a0<\/p>\n Intermediate non-clinical fellowships<\/strong> for renal research specialisation of post-doctoral scientists\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0<\/p>\n PhD studentships (non-clinical) <\/strong>in renal research, supporting a science graduate to obtain a higher degree\u00a0<\/p>\n Clinical training fellowships<\/strong> to support medical graduates to specialise in renal research thereby expanding the levels of expertise in kidney research and treatment\u00a0<\/p>\n Information about eligibility, grant regulations and conditions, and opening and closing dates for submissions.<\/p>\n\t We are pleased to invite expressions of interest from teams or individuals whose proposals directly address our immediate research priorities, and who seek initial or further support to establish their research career.\u00a0<\/p>\n We are keen to encourage applications from new investigators who have not previously held competitively awarded project or start-up funding as a principal investigator.<\/p>\n Expression of interest applications will not be eligible for submission where:\u00a0<\/p>\n Both scientific and lay summaries will be used to assess each submission. Consideration will be given to how closely the proposal matches to our\u00a0immediate\u00a0research priorities\u00a0and all submissions will be ranked according to their potential to deliver against these.\u00a0<\/p>\n All applicants must be resident in the United Kingdom and the research must take place in a UK establishment.\u00a0<\/p>\n Successful applicants will be invited to submit a full application in due course.
