I&#8217;m determined that we will find the best ways to support kidney patients&#8217; mental health and improve the transplant experience. \u202f\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>Kidney disease is the hardest thing I&#8217;ve ever had to deal with. We&#8217;ve got to make it better for others and research is the answer. I&#8217;m excited to see what projects we can fund through the Andy Cole Fund Grant Awards to help change the game for kidney patients.&#8221;\u202f\u00a0<strong>Andy Cole, kidney patient and former England footballer<\/strong><\/p>\n\t<h2>Types of grants available<\/h2>\n<p>We welcome applications for\u00a0the following grant types:<\/p>\n\t<p><strong>Research project\u00a0grants:<\/strong> funds stand-alone research projects that will advance our knowledge in kidney\u00a0transplantation.<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Grant available: up to \u00a3250,000<\/li>\n<li>Funding period: maximum of three years, may be spread over a two or three-year period.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\t<p><strong>Start-up grants:<\/strong> funds stand-alone research studies to investigate innovative new hypotheses around kidney transplantation that lack any significant existing research evidence.\u00a0<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Grant available: up to \u00a340,000<\/li>\n<li>Funding period: maximum of two years, may be spread over a one or two-year period.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\t<p><strong>PhD studentships (non-clinical)<\/strong> PhD Studentships are available for research leading to a PhD, focusing on kidney transplantation research.<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>PhD Studentship:\u202fThe student&#8217;s stipend is based on the Medical Research Council Scale.<br \/>\n<\/li>\n<li>Higher degree\u202ftuition\u202ffees and\u202fa consumables allowance\u202fof \u00a35,000 per annum\u202fup to a total  of \u00a315,000.\u00a0\u00a0<br \/>\n<\/li>\n<li>Funding period: for up to three and a half years.\u00a0<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\t<p><strong>Transplant surgeon PhD fellowships<\/strong><strong>:<\/strong> supports medical graduates who are specialising in surgery to expand the levels of expertise in kidney transplantation research.\u00a0<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Training Fellowship: The Fellow&#8217;s salary, higher degree tuition fees and a consumables allowance of \u00a315,000 per annum. \u00a0<br \/>\n<\/li>\n<li>Funding period: for up to three years.\u00a0<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\t<h2>Submitting an application<\/h2>\n<p>Information of eligibility, grant regulations and conditions, and opening and closing dates for submissions.<\/p>\n\t<h2><strong>Application information<\/strong><\/h2>\n<p>All submissions to this call will be subject to expert review involving members of our research grants committee and lay advisory group and both scientific and lay external reviewers.<\/p>\n<p>All lead applicants must be resident in the United Kingdom and the research must be led from a UK establishment.\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>Applications should be submitted on the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.kidneyresearchuk.org\/research\/research-grants\/grant-application-process\/\">Professor\u00a0Michael Nicholson gran<\/a><a href=\"https:\/\/www.kidneyresearchuk.org\/research\/research-grants\/grant-application-process\/\">ts round<\/a> application forms.<\/p>\n\t\t\t<a href=\"https:\/\/kidneyresearchuk.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/03\/Regulations-and-Conditions-202204.pdf\" target=\"_self\">\n\t\t\t\t\t\t\tRegulations and conditions\n\t\t\t\t\t<\/a>\n\t<h2>Application key dates<\/h2>\n<p><strong>Opening date:<\/strong> 30 June 2025<\/p>\n<p><strong>Closing date:<\/strong> 29 September 2025<\/p>\n\t\t\t<a href=\"https:\/\/research.kidneyresearchuk.org\/login.aspx\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">\n\t\t\t\t\t\t\tClosed for application\n\t\t\t<\/a>\n\t<h2>Got a question?
