innovative approaches to kidney transplantation, and in recognition of the urgent need to decrease waiting times and improve the outcomes for those who need a donor kidney, we are launching the Kidney Research UK-Stoneygate jointly funded Professor Michael Nicholson Awards. <\/p>\n<p>For this third year of funding, we welcome UK-based proposals aiming to improve outcomes for the kidney patient community and build expertise in renal transplantation.\u00a0<\/p>\n\t<h2>Transforming transplantation research\u00a0<\/h2>\n<p>It is an exciting time for transplantation research with significant breakthroughs taking place, and we are now seeking applications from UK-based researchers who can help us achieve even greater impact by escalating research progress and innovation\u00a0 and strengthen collaboration across all transplant research centres.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>We wish to increase the number of researchers by:\u00a0<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li data-leveltext=\"\uf0b7\" data-font=\"Symbol\" regenerative therapies that prolong transplant survival.\u00a0<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>We aim to build on our ongoing investment in Cambridge through part of this programme of investment, although we are actively seeking applications from researchers based UK-wide.\u00a0<\/p>\n\t<h2>Types of grants available<\/h2>\n<p>We welcome applications for the following grant types:\u00a0<\/p>\n\t<p><strong>Research project grants: <\/strong>funds stand-alone research projects that will advance our knowledge in kidney transplantation.<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Grant available: up to \u00a3250,000<\/li>\n<li>Funding period: maximum of three years, may be spread over a two or three-year period.\u00a0<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\t<p><strong>Start-up grants: <\/strong>funds stand-alone research studies to investigate innovative new hypotheses around kidney transplantation that lack any significant existing research evidence.\u00a0<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Grant available: up to \u00a340,000<\/li>\n<li>Funding period: maximum of two years, may be spread over a one or two-year period.\u00a0<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\t<p><strong>Senior non-clinical fellowships:<\/strong> to support scientists who have conducted independent research in the renal field to build reputation in this field, deepening their knowledge and experience<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Funding period: over five years maximum<\/li>\n<li>Items of expenditure: Fellow&#8217;s salary and consumables<\/li>\n<li>Annual consumables allowance:\u00a0\u00a324,000<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\t<p><strong>Transplant surgeon PhD fellowship: <\/strong>supports medical graduates who are specialising in surgery to expand the levels of expertise in kidney transplantation research.<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Training Fellowship: The Fellow&#8217;s salary, higher degree tuition fees and a consumables allowance of \u00a315,000 per annum.\u00a0<\/li>\n<li>Funding period: for up to three years.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\t<p><strong>PhD studentship: <\/strong>PhD Studentships are available for research leading to PhD, focusing on kidney transplantation research.<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>PhD Studentship:\u202fThe student&#8217;s stipend is based on the Medical Research Council Scale. Higher degree\u202ftuition\u202ffees and\u202fa consumables allowance\u202fof \u00a35,000 per annum\u202fup to a total of \u00a315,000.\u00a0<\/li>\n<li>Funding period: for up to three and a half years.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\t<h2>Submitting an application<\/h2>\n\t<p>All submissions to this call will be subject to expert review involving members of our research grants committee and lay advisory group and both scientific and lay external reviewers. <a href=\"https:\/\/www.kidneyresearchuk.org\/research\/research-grants\/grant-application-process\/\">Information about the expert review process<\/a>.\u00a0\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>All lead applicants must be resident in the United Kingdom and the research must be led from a UK establishment.\u00a0\u00a0<\/p>\n\t\t\t<a href=\"https:\/\/www.kidneyresearchuk.org\/research\/research-grants\/grant-application-process\/\" target=\"_self\" rel=\"nofollow\">\n\t\t\t\t\t\t\tClosed for application\n\t\t\t\t\t<\/a>\n\t<p><strong>If you have a question or would like further information contact:<\/strong><\/p>\n\t<blockquote><p>&#8220;We urgently need more scientific research to help reduce waiting times, to make transplants last longer and to create better post-surgery experiences for our patients.
