10 year health plan falls short for kidney patients – sign our letter to the Prime Minister

07 July 2025

Today, the government announced the long-awaited 10 Year Health Plan. In many aspects, it’s a welcome, ambitious shift in health policy, including initiatives to tackle diabetes and heart disease, which are some (not all) of the causal factors of kidney disease. However, omitting kidney disease itself and the complex needs of kidney patients from this plan, smacks yet again of an under appreciation of kidney disease, of the vast impact it has on individuals, society and the NHS, and the growing threat it poses.

The growing threat of kidney disease:

  • Over 7 million people live with kidney disease. Overlooked and ignored.
  • Kidney disease costs the NHS at least £6.4 billion every year.
  • These numbers are predicted to soar over the next few years.

More robust measures are urgently needed to tackle kidney disease. You can help.

Detail is key. Detailed plans showing how to deliver personalised care to kidney patients, and how to ensure urgent steps are taken to prevent the growth of kidney disease. It is vital these are not lost in the huge shifts in healthcare policy.
